Root Canal Treatment (RCT)

Root Canal Treatment is a dental procedure used to treat infection or damage within the pulp of a tooth — the innermost soft tissue containing nerves and blood vessels.

🔍 Why it’s done:

  • Deep decay (dental caries)
  • Cracked/chipped tooth
  • Repeated dental procedures on the same tooth
  • Trauma to the tooth
  • Pulp infection or inflammation

🦷 Procedure Overview:

  1. Diagnosis & X-ray – Identifies extent of infection.
  2. Anesthesia – Local anesthesia is administered to numb the tooth.
  3. Pulp removal – The infected pulp tissue is removed using small instruments.
  4. Cleaning & Shaping – Canals are cleaned, disinfected, and shaped.
  5. Filling – The empty canals are filled with a biocompatible material like gutta-percha.
  6. Restoration – The tooth is sealed with a filling or crown to restore strength and function.

✅ Benefits:

  • Saves the natural tooth
  • Restores chewing ability
  • Prevents spread of infection

Post-Treatment Care:

  • Avoid chewing hard food on the treated tooth until crowned
  • Maintain good oral hygiene
  • Regular dental visits
